PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Former id Software producer says the team faced the 'worst crunch' in the series' history on Doom: The Dark Ages – Revelations: 'There were days where I didn't see my son'byMoonMelon@lemmy.mlEnglish
2 monthsI interacted with devs at several Zenimax studios and watching all the employees in other countries take long vacations, generous parental leave, etc. really threw into sharp relief how fucked the USA is. And Zenimax USA benefits were considered good by USA standards, but they were so obviously nothing compared to countries with worker protection enshrined in law. Surprise, despite all that time off, many of those international employees were still extremely valuable.
Across foreign and domestic employees, Id Software in particular seemed lean, talented, and just generally switched on. One of the best experiences of my career. Arkane Lyon, too. I was dumbfounded at the layoffs. It’s like Microsoft excised the most creative and productive parts of the company on purpose.
PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Star Citizen has a disastrously laggy stream with horrendous vibes, which isn't a great look when you're past $1 billion in fundingbyMoonMelon@lemmy.mlEnglish
2 monthsThe whole thing kind of reminds me of what happened to John Romero when he was given unbelievable amounts of money to found Ion Storm and create Daikatana. But for Star Citizen the money faucet has never turned off.
Climate@slrpnk.net•Fossils show huge carbon emissions harm forests, not ‘green the planet’ | Study of 56m-year-old leaves counters claims from Trump administration members of ‘benefits’ of fossil fuel pollutionbyMoonMelon@lemmy.mlEnglish2 monthsMany plants simply can’t fix carbon in the extreme heat unless there’s an abundance of water, the patterns of which are also changing. Some plants have evolved strategies to deal with this but most haven’t had the need, including the trees of the boreal forest. Not only is that the largest land biome it’s a shit ton of carbon, and shits on fire, yo.
These people pitching this never cared about truth. Pretty soon they’ll hit the bedrock of “dying in the heat is noble” or some shit.
Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Lemmings who can fall asleep within minutes of their head hitting the pillow, what's your secret?byMoonMelon@lemmy.mlEnglish
3 monthsI read fiction that requires almost no brain power. Either print or e-ink (no bright screen). Sherlock Holmes type stuff is like a sleeping pill.

After witnessing the downfall of Reddit, both because of enshittification and in the overall discourse, it felt silly to jump to another neoliberal community. I feel the same way about Blue Sky.
I don’t care about instance rivalries at all. Reddit refugees fleeing the dismal quagmire that is the inevitable result of capitalist social media and going to the place MLs created as a direct response to those conditions, then criticizing MLs, is kind of amusing but that’s all. I created a .world account first because I didn’t know the lay of the land then realized I didn’'t really feel like reading those same jokes, quips, puns, and slogans ad nauseum. I’m glad the architecture of lemmy allows me to choose a refuge where I don’t feel crazy. I regret it took me so long to find my people.
I appreciate you coming here and asking this question.
