bears had been moving into more areas of the West this year, in part because the extremely dry winter deprived them of the foods they eat in their usual habitats.

“As climate change causes these sorts of extreme events to happen more, it’s going to become more common, which is unfortunate,” he said. “Bears are going into areas where they don’t normally go.”


Experts say camels comfortably beat the heat up to around 40C by mainly allowing their body temperature to fluctuate by several degrees throughout the day to deal with outside temperature.

“In many parts of the Sahara, summer temperatures now frequently exceed 50C, increasing the risk of severe heat stress, particularly when accompanied by reduced vegetation cover, water scarcity, and limited access to shade,” he told the BBC.




In winter, Arctic air is hazy with industrial pollutants from Europe and Asia trapped by weather systems, so more aerosols have little effect. In summer, though, when sea traffic increases, the air is clear and the research suggests a single vessel can affect cloud formation. This is true even with low-sulphur fuel, which is supposed to be more environmentally friendly.

The amount of cloud affects “radiative forcing,” how much is trapped and does not escape back to space, increasing the greenhouse effect.
