Shitposter while I tend to two babies. Maybe when I have my life back, I’ll help us get a few more niche communities back?

  • I’ve already seen (almost) this exact model with RetroAchevements subsets and it is indeed an improvement. It’s not just about having organized achievements, but mastering a base set and skipping the grind set is a nice touch. (They also do multi sets, glitch sets, challenge sets, etc).

RA is a bit strict on guidelines though, like all achievements being single player unless in a multiplayer subset, etc, which would be a good model for games with multiplayer modes that go defunct. Too bad I don’t see many developers going back and making that adjustment, though.

  • Somewhat easier, yeah. I’ve got a 4yo girl now, and she has become very responsible. I still have to do a lot of work getting her to TK and stuff, but I have a lot more time and don’t have to fully keep an eye on her because she knows to ask permission.

However, your mileage may vary. My 2yo is more like your 2yo and I’m not certain he’ll be a responsible 4yo in two years. He’s getting spoiled by his big sis, too.

But I’m not back to being like my childfree self yet, and that’s a tough bar. I used to get to sleep until noon cause of my job; not so much now…

  • Sometimes I like teaching, sometimes I don’t. I think it’s usually a net positive, but since ChatGPT became a thing it’s becoming a bit of a burden. Either I’m worried about them cheating or I’m noticing each semester the students get worse at thinking for themselves, or both.

It’s a fairly open enrollment university so there’s a pretty low bar for base knowledge and scholarly ability but like… this is something else. I have successfully taught statistics to a 6th grade drop out single mom from Mexico through motivation and patience, but now a 19 year old fresh out of American high school fails the basic logic required of the course and argues when I give them an F over it. Something is very wrong lately and I’m hating it lately.

So I guess the answer is I used to love it and now loathe it? We’ll see next month…

  • The number of specific game fixes is both absurd and a testament of what you can do when you keep excellent bookkeeping of user tickets. You’re bug fixing basically the entire history of PC gaming, which kinda reminds me of the efforts made in the emulation space but at a larger scale.

My favorite part of the patch notes is basically "EA broke their games again because of their launcher so we made it work again. They might as well should add a long sigh at the end.
