Yeah no shit. This was the plan all along. Big tech wanted to flood the market with too much talent so they could lower pay for engineers. This was always the plan.
They never gave two shits about women in coding, or inner city coding caml’s. They wanted mass cheap labor.
The cherry on top is right as that labor was coming out they got a double whammy of AI too.
They also park in bike lanes and pedestrian areas so I’m not holding my breath.
That being said, yeah I’m not surprised either. Riding the bus looking at drivers I’ll say a solid, very solid 1/4 minimum are doing something with their phones.
Jellyfin is the o ly OSS project I’ve walked away from a change. It was a simple exception thrown that could be ignored in very specific circumstances that I remember. I wrote up the change, left several lines of comments, looked up code style, files the bug and PR in the proper way and… Rejected.
My 2 or 3 line PR was nitpicked to hell, I think the fourth round of reviews I just walked away. It wasn’t worth it for me at that point.
So I’m not entirely surprised that they’re feeling burnout. It seemed exhausting getting anything done.
yeah… idk man. If you don’t like Codeberg then don’t use it? Why write a whole blogpost against it?
There are others, and there is forgejo you can run yourself. So your ideals don’t align, they won’t everywhere you go, keep looking for one that does.
US was too focused on trying to force dominance, they forgot what actual competition is. They could have spent that effort in becoming better, encouraging more US based companies. Instead here we are.

While I agree they shouldn’t be there… This is exactly why we shouldn’t have centralized control.
Because yesterday it was the anti ICE apps. Today it’s these. Tomorrow it can and be anything.
Living through this has taught me that while I was a strong federalist to try and guarantee rights and build out what I think will help society, it only takes one rogue faction to turn it all against you.

My car I bought and paid for, over 10 years ago, is now sold and gone. She ran well, nothing wrong with her, but realized over the last year that I hadn’t been using it all thanks to decent bus service and my e-scooter.
In fact, turns out I haven’t even had it registered for years, I had forgotten to! It’s been sitting for so long out of nostalgia and fear that I would need it again someday.
Writing from the bus now, which I paid a few bucks for, I realized how much I was wasting by owning a car. $700 every 6 months, plus when it was registered that was another $600 a year. My total bus bill for the last year was $200.
We still have one car, but I’m excited! I think I’m going to use the money from the sale to buy an ebike!
Anyway, I just wanted to say it is possible, in north America no less.
