This is great advice but doesn’t get around that fact that sodatreams themselves are cheap plastic, have weak valves and don’t last super long. I have seen all-metal carbonators for sale online but they’re $$$ and I’m also not sure how easy they are to convert to a larger tank.

This is definitely not “BIFL” advice but sodastreams are cheap and usually there’s one or two at thrift stores so it’s not the end of the world if one breaks.

How is everyone backing up Immich off site without breaking the bank? I have ~4tb of photos and videos going back years.

Also solar is more decentralized by it’s nature so you don’t need to deploy all the infrastructure normally expected. A village doesn’t need to be connected to a larger grid to receive power during the daytime. Heck, a lot of individual homes can manage if the owners can afford panels and batteries.

I think it’s more likely he was told they don’t need his vote.
