Should AZ make it a rule that articles/essays must have the author/s in the post title.

1. Better promotion of authors could help readers understand the context of the writers more, and build peoples awareness of the writers and their body of work.

To explain my thought more:

The author of something is important, maybe more important than the title. For instance a George Monbiot article is going to be very different from a Michelle Grattan article. Their worldviews are very different. Not saying either are right or wrong, but understanding that these authors don’t write these stories in a vaccum can give a better understanding of what each are trying to communicate leading, especially as familiarity builds, to better context for the reader scrolling through their feed.

2. Might make things harder for a few bot posting accounts. I don’t know, this is a side benefit at best.

So, what does this mean for aussie.zone?

Does this mean we all need to get a Fairphone with e/os, or another non-android handset? What are the options for that?

Does this mean aussie.zone will break with the lemmy developers and become more independent? A kind of forced Fork?

A while back Lodion described their interest in aussie.zone as their hobby, which really stuck with me.

In that interaction Lodion also felt uncomfortable giving users the power to direct the course of the website aussie.zone, when its only one person who bears the risk. I think this was an eminently advisable decision on Lodion’s part.

But since that interaction i’ve thought there must be a way to keep aussie.zone’s independence as Lodion’s project and hobby, but also build out a more cohesive and strategically directed publicly available social media.

So, like aussie.zone, but more. My answer is a bit old school, but it essentially is what this loose group of internet naredewells is. We’re an informal Association, not unlike the Lions Rotary Club, but online. We’re a group who come together, with a specific purpose in mind and work furthering that purpose at our own will.

So why not formalise it as an Association to build out an independently owned, non-coersive social media. We could have different projects running and interconnecting. Such as a Mastodon project, piefed, peertube project etc. Then we could support different levels of participation, such as server infrastructure, or creator production. Aussie.zone could be involved, and still be wholly directed and owned by Lodion.

Anyway, not trying to rock any boats, its a loose thought, just trying to think of ways a different social media could be made available for people thats not yoked to the small cabals of billionaire twats. What do people think?

This is a key reason behind my discomfort with social media. The algorithms that seem unresponsive to clear signals of intent was the last straw. Ended up leaving YouTube over the incessant push to new channels and ragebait shit.

Anyway, lemmy might be a cesspit at times, but its a cesspit I can choose/not choose, to engage with, and thats some nice anti-monopolisation of my online experience in the design.
