I don’t see many people mention Osmium. Does anyone have any experience with it?
- NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zipEnglish26 days
Sooner people quit using discord the better. Crazy how many people jumped on.
Tattorack@lemmy.worldEnglish
26 daysHmm… Well, coming from Skype it certainly was amazing. Though, I guess this depends when you first were exposed to Discord.
I hopped onto it well before any hint of enshitification occurred.
- Eheran@lemmy.worldEnglish26 days
Coming from Teamspeak it is shit. But Teamspeak did not develop a better chat system, so I guess at least there discord was better. To this day there is no “your microphone is muted” warning in discord, absolutely crazy. The mute/unmute sounds are almost identical and no way to change them…
- OneClappedCheek@lemmy.worldEnglish25 days
There is a “your mic is muted” warning. A green text box appears over the mute icon to let you know others can’t hear you. The sounds are also completely different? Higher pitched note for unmuted, lower for mute. Idk how you can’t hear the difference.
- Eheran@lemmy.worldEnglish25 days
Text? Where am I supposed to read text while playing? I have seen it happen SO often that people forgot to unmute. This is not a me-problem but based on 1000s of hours with groups.
- OneClappedCheek@lemmy.worldEnglish24 days
If you dont have 2 monitors, use the overlay? The mute icon is visible on your screen.
My buddies do it all the time as well, not just with discord but with in-line mics, etc. That’s a human problem, not a discord problem lol

Perhaps open source projects should stop using it as a replacement for forums

27 daysDid you drop an /s or is a publicly searchable record of tech knowledge not what devs want?
- arran 🇦🇺@aussie.zoneEnglish24 days
I’m not sure what you read in what I wrote sorry. My comment wasn’t sarcasm it was defeat.
- notthebees@reddthat.comEnglish26 days
Problem is that it’s not archivable. Tech discord servers are like that and it’s really annoying.
- anticurrent@sh.itjust.worksEnglish27 days
Oh please! you only need 3 disenfranchised users to write such article. 99% of people just talk and never walk the walk.
You know how many millions of people are using discords daily. Some servers have millions of subscribers and many have hundreds of thousands, where do you think those people will migrate to.
Discord will be just fine! I know people who spend all their free time on it.
- TerdFerguson@lemmy.caEnglish27 days
I deleted discord when they introduced this plan the first time. Not like it was going to go away, magically, no, it was always going to happen.
Don’t need it

27 daysMe in 2002: “Wow this IRC thing is pretty sweet, I bet people in 2026 will still be using it and it will be even better.”
People in 2026: “I just cannot live without six different closed source, bloated, expensive, corporate versions of IRC which are somehow worse in every imaginable way than IRC was in 2002.”
- BillionaireStew@lemmy.worldEnglish26 days
quake mapping community in 2026:
“Download and support documentation are in our Discord!”

Preserved history between sessions is really the only thing IRC was truly missing.
- InGodWeThrust@lemmy.zipEnglish27 days
I’ve been wondering if IRC still exists. I used to use it way back in the day, is it still. Bathing I can get back into?
- P1nkman@lemmy.worldEnglish26 days
I think it’s The Protomen, the band, which has an active IRC channel you can use in the browser.
- dubs@lemmy.dbzer0.comEnglish27 days
I still use it, and run my own server. Easy to run, and easy to use.
- InGodWeThrust@lemmy.zipEnglish25 days
Awesome. It’s been ages since I’ve used it, so what do I need to get in there and to find some fun channels to hang out in?
- Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.comEnglish27 days
It is, my old some of my old hangouts are still around on dalnet, anyone else have a bumping server to recc?
UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.worldEnglish
27 daysIt also says that 90 percent of Discord users won’t have to bother with age verification thanks to its age estimation system.
If you believe this…

27 daysJust set up my self hosted fluxer. All my friends come over. Wild.
soratoyuki@piefed.zipEnglish
27 daysI was hoping with the year run-up we’d have a better alternative replacement, but alas.
Matrix is… alright. Element is fine on Linux but Element X doesn’t support spoiler text on Android. Fluffychat looks really nice on Android but has buggy unread notifications. Sable is also pretty feature-rich on Android at least, but it’s also a very laggy app.
Jade@programming.devEnglish
27 daysSchlidinext is basically element X android but better (it’s a soft fork), and supports tables and spoilers and all that
Jade@programming.devEnglish
27 daysI mean, a new beta was released today, and some of the components are shared between the apps

27 daysI deleted my 11 year old account after the first shitstorm. I’m happier now. Discord fucking sucks.
- CanadianCorhen@lemmy.caEnglish27 days
90% of the reason I’m still on discord is that’s where my oldschool RuneScape clan is
My friend group moved to Steam groups, which… Isn’t a great replacement.
justdaveisfine@piefed.socialEnglish
27 daysIf Steam got rid of removing messages after two weeks, it would definitely be more viable.
- CanadianCorhen@lemmy.caEnglish27 days
i also really miss the easy emoji responses, and gif intergration.
- ArmchairAce1944@lemmy.caEnglish27 days
I quit discord over this a long time ago. I am not coming back.
justdaveisfine@piefed.socialEnglish
27 daysI stepped away from Discord months ago and I must admit, I haven’t found a good replacement yet. And if it is decent, no one else I know will jump on it.
Its frustrating.
(I know someone may feel compelled to offer a solution by pointing me towards a Discord-like. I assure you, I’ve already tried or looked into it.)
- NoFearFrontier@feddit.orgEnglish27 days
I have been successfully using sharkord. Its getting better and better. Easier to setup then fluxer, IMHO.
EmoPolarbear@lemmy.caEnglish
27 daysIt’s not quite ready yet but Fluxer is trying to be a drop in replacement for discord with self hosted options. I’m just waiting for it to be a bit more ready and stable before I jump ship, but as soon as they glance my way with age verification I’ll probably jump early
iamthetot@piefed.caEnglish
27 daysBeen using Fluxer since March. Is there something specific you need before you consider it ready?
iamthetot@piefed.caEnglish
27 daysNot to press the issue too much here, but is there a specific reason why? I don’t have an iPhone so I can’t comment on that version, but the android app is perfectly usable.
- mholiv@lemmy.worldEnglish27 days
Probably because they use an iPhone. You can’t use android apps on iPhones. Just like you can’t use iOS apps on android.
iamthetot@piefed.caEnglish
27 daysI didn’t mean to imply otherwise. My point was that the android app is likewise in the play store beta program, but is very usable. But, as I said, I’m unfamiliar with iphone so if the test program means you can’t use it, I see.
- mholiv@lemmy.worldEnglish27 days
On iOS being in beta via TestFlight means only 10,000 people can test the app at a time. After that limit is hit no one can sign up to “test” the app unless someone drops out.
