Has anyone heard someone blame Canada as if the nation of Canada was personally attacking them?

Had a relative do that yesterday and it was a reminder in a moment that should have been a low stress, loving moment with family a rage inducing reminder that we’re fucked.

Trump called it an invasion and threatened tariffs. Your relative is probably watching Fox News or something more depraved.

I was waiting to be seated at a restaurant Friday when I overheard the same sentiment but then took a hard right turn…

“It never used to be like this” ‘i know’ “All the liberals stopped the logging in Canada and now look at them burn and here we are dealing with it.”

Its just propaganda. The most effective of which seems to be false explanations and distraction conspiracies. Anything but allow people to see whats going on and who’s doing it.

We’re in the ‘FIND OUT’ phase of what happens when you clear cut an entire continent and replant our forests on a massive scale while thinking that ‘oh all that sequestered carbon will just be recaptured in the new trees we plant’. No - whats happening instead is - the trees we mass replanted don’t capture that carbon back at a rate we expect - I am pretty sure the forestry industry knows this - but hey profits right?

Also I reckon if we have retained our old growth forests, it wouldn’t be this bad. It would still be bad, but at least our forests would be more resilient. As for those that have no idea what a old growth forest is - think massive trees that are wider than 2 cars at the base and that are over a thousand years old each at minimum. Go visit one when you have a chance - they are increasingly rare because governments are still fucking allowing logging companies to cut them down. Also, you’ll find they’re a lot more humid than young forests (~200 year old ones). It’s a travesty. In BC, for example, 97% of the province have been clear-cutted and our forestry industry likes to tout themselves as ‘sustainable’. It’s bullshit. What’s even crazier is that we got barely any industry other than shipping out raw lumber for processing elsewhere while we lose jobs and taxes on value added industries.

Context for those out of the loop, Geoff Thew runs an anime review channel on YouTube called “Mother’s Basement”.

And in case anyone asks, back when I followed him he had moved out of his mother’s basement to live with his girlfriend. No idea if that’s still the case

His channel drives me nuts because he’ll act like some anime is the lewdest, trashiest piece of smut he’s ever seen then you go to check it out yourself and it’s like, two brief panty shots.

Look dude, if I’m coming to restaurant called chez garbage, I’m not here for the slightly soggy fries appetizer

Sounds like someone I should check out. He’s absolutely right to call shit like that out

Anime has a pervert problem. Any other media would get raked over the coals for how much and how often the characters are sexualized, especially in stories where it doesn’t fit. But in anime, it’s just brushed off because its become so normalized, but it really shouldn’t be.

Think about this, what was the last piece of non-anime media you’ve seen that featured a girl’s panties? Not a woman. Not an adult getting dressed. But an underaged girl’s panties. Because that shit is everywhere in anime, and it’s played off as cute or funny. It’s fucking gross.

Show me where I said underaged in my comment. We’re talking about legal smut for consenting adults, chill out.

And yeah dude, that would be fine if the point was to call out trash in anime, but it isn’t, the point of his videos is to celebrate the trash. We aren’t talking about PG-rated anime sneaking in gross pedo shit into their shows for children here (which is unquestionably gross), we’re talking about ecchi shows made explicitly for adult audiences with the primary intent to titillate.

It’s not like The New Yorker doing an exposé on the porn industry, it’s like the porn industry doing a sensationalized preview for a video called “Extreme Anal Nurses Gangbang 7” then finding out that the movie in question actually only features one nurse and she’s fully dressed the whole time.

Take your pearl clutching somewhere it’s at least halfway appropriate, please.

People spent decades preventing wildfires. Fires are a natural part of ecological systems. Overgrowth and a build up of litter cause more intense fires and increase their ability to spread. In northern regions, people were also preventing beavers from doing their thing that helps reduce wildfire spread. At least in Florida we pioneered controlled burns to simulate nature and save lives.
