Cake day: August 2nd, 2026
  • Honestly, I try to get back to sleep for a few minutes and if that doesn’t work, I’ll just get up and start my day. Same happened today at 5am, currently 6am and I already updated my phone, read and replied to my e-mails, spent a few minutes here to read a little, it’s not that bad. My argument is that if I try to lay there I will unconciously make the bed a place where I feel frustrated. So I never lay there half awake or bedrot with my phone in the mornings as both of that will lead to me being unable to properly fall asleep in the evening as I will start hating going to bed. Currently I’m on my couch in a blanket, which isn’t far from bedrotting, but I’m not making the bed a place I resent by choosing to stay in there.

  • Yes, ten years ago when I already spoke/wrote perfect English on paper but didn’t have much experience talking to actual people (CS GO voice chat doesn’t count) I often had times where what I wrote in English would have been a perfectly reasonable way to express an emotion in German, but the other person found it odd. Of course I didn’t literally translate a German expression 1:1, that would not be the yellow of the egg (ha). Instead I struggled to for example with a general way to acknowledge the feelings of the other person, I always got confused responses since the words in isolation were grammatically correct and in German would have been empathic enough, but the, I wanna say, “social weight” of the words was actually way off. Again, I was already speaking perfect English back then, but with no real-world experience. Societal differences may have also played a role, as Germans are generally regarded to be more cold than the English or the inhabitants of the FSA (Facistic States of America) plus me having autism didn’t exactly provide for a good basis of understanding the weight or intended emotion of the words I chose back then. Now I think I have a good understanding, but I have to conciously “translate the emotion” as well as the actual language. So yeah, I completely get you.

  • You are absolutely right to push back on this! Back then the internet definitely felt like a slower-paced and more deliberate place—would you like me to name a few things that you would likely feel nostalgic about?

19 days ago I announced my plans here on Lemmy and after four weeks and ~300 hours in total, I can finally share the first ISO of my project with this community. “sometime next week” yeah that was optimistic lmao I want to thank you again for the feedback on the initial announcement and I can say I tried my best to address and implement a lot of your suggestions!

For the people that haven’t read the last post, this is the basic gist of it:

Unlike immutable distributions that lock you out of the native package manager and force you into sandboxes, Plutonium-239 keeps the core Arch experience intact. You still get the bleeding-edge Arch repositories and the power of the AUR but all of that with a 5-20% performance boost from a heavily optimized kernel and the peace of mind of an unbreakable safety net underneath.

For the ISO and the in-depth technical documentation, please visit my website at the link in the title!

The 0.0.1 version is a pre-release/in-development version meant for experienced people interested in this project. I tested it extensively and I’m running it for a few days now on my Thinkpad myself, however I can IN NO WAY guarantee that this is 100% viable to daily-drive just yet.

I’m very thankful for every person that considers testing this distro in a VM or on a secondary PC to contribute to the development of this project. Any feedback is appreciated and I hope my work can be of value to you!

Edit: from the feedback that was pm’d to me so far it seems like it’s working fine when it’s running but two people had issues with the hardware detection during the install. If you are experiencing a similar issue, please send me your hardware specs and the output of the log where it failed and I’ll be able to make it more robust!

  • Lisdexamphetamine

Okay but in all seriousness, I used to absolutely hate hearing what everyone else here is saying, that you “just have to get up and start doing it” because that never worked for me. After getting diagnosed with ADHD and settling on 40mg Lisdexamphetamine in the morning, that advice actually started working.

As the title and the website say, I’m currently making a distro with the goal that you don’t have to compromise between ease of use + safety and bleeding-edge + performance optimizations.

As I will likely be able to publish the 0.0.1 source code to the GitHub link and the ISO to the website sometime next week, I would like people to be aware of my project so I can have some feedback for further improvements when I release the first version. I have not posted this anywhere else yet, as I value the opinion of this community more than Reddit or whatever.

If you have any questions or any criticism, please voice it, I would love to hear it, good or bad, in the end I want to make a proper OS. (I’ll go to bed now so expect replies to take a few hours from posting.)
