Seriously, I don’t see what data centres give their hosts. They barely require a workforce after setup, they rip through resources, they fuck with the environment, they offer no municipal services, and they’re eyesores. At best they’re a form of property tax revenue and I guess rates revenue.
And games they licence, even when the devs want to continue working on them.
I’ve seen this meme many times, but for the first time I’m seeing Dr Ian Malcolm’s dumb jock brother. I hope this is temporary and not something that can’t be unseen…
The is awesome in one way, but terrible in others. Anthropic and OpenAI can afford this (bullshit!) but their latest open source competitors cannot. In a way, it may be helping lock in monopolies if open source can’t cut them down a bit first. It should go a step further by limiting companies from dominating the industry in nations they aren’t even based in. Currently, it’s accepting that data centres owned by big companies/corporations is how the AI industry is and will be.
Sure it’s not what they wanted, but sweeping in and locking down the industry in Australia will be great for their shaky plans for IPO.
I’m no lawmaker or expert, but I see this as important as anything else the Australian government thinks it’s thought of.

That’s the thing I think I’ll die never understanding. I really don’t see the point of being on your death bed with plenty of leftovers.
Some people have a really backwards understanding on the core philosophy of “being successful in life”. Like, he seems to lack the ability to grasp the literal meaning of that concept and so will always be doomed to fail at achieving anything with it. It just makes sense to understand he has a psychological deficit. I’d be empathetic if he weren’t such a catastrophic burden to everyone.
Same. I also code up about 50% of stuff so all the structure is there, effectively as guardrails, before using AI. Then prompting it instructions that are effectively the solution, so it doesn’t come up with its own.
Then, read through it all, replace things that could’ve been done better, and test.
On average it’s maybe 15-20% quicker than manually coding the whole lot. Try skip any of those steps and the chances of it blowing out increase to the point I just end up doing it all anyway and it’s taken twice as long because of it.
It’s alarming when people don’t even check.
It would be the most depressing job. You’d get bored so fast.
