An interesting article in today’s Guardian on a new book that re examines his rather dubious reputation…

…driven by all the new material that began appearing in 2019, which coincided with the reopening of the debate about Gauguin’s troubling reputation. It seemed important to re-examine his life: not to condemn, not to excuse, but simply to shed new light on the man and the myth.

Heads up folks…

@hilliard@lemmy.world has made an alternative Artist Lounge community on lemmy.world which they are very keen on making a really cool space for artists (and non artists) to hang out

We had a nice chat earlier today, and they have plenty of enthusiasm to make up for my current burnout and inertia. I recommend checking it out, by clicking here (hopefully the link works properly) and subscribe!

Anyone on lemmy.ml can use this link

Hopefully the numbers will grow over there, and it will become a creative and vibrant community!

Hello!

And firstly, a small apology over the (mostly) inactive state of the community…

I created the community during the reddit blackout, as I wanted to have a space to discuss art techniques/materials/art help/business side of being creative/an artist. I also made 3 other communities printmaking, collage and abstract photography at the same time.

Which is rather a lot.

So, I decided to concentrate on the ‘easier’ communities, which mostly involves posting artwork found on the internet to create a ‘garnish’ of colour and interest.

Hopefully, this will make a space that others will feel comfortable posting, either their own original content or sharing work they find online. It seems to be slowly working, with a steady increase of subscribers and also some original content, woo!

So back to Artist Lounge.

I have linked art communities I’ve found so far in the fediverse, if there are others that I don’t know about please share and I’ll include them. I am also thinking of ways to get the place going, which will involve discussion based posts (not posting ‘pretty pictures’) which will take time and considerably more effort on my part, hence the inactive state of things.

If anyone wants to share community links, information or has suggestions, please leave a comment. If you’re feeling particularly daring perhaps make a post… :)

Until then, see you at printmaking, collage or abstract photography

  1. Please mark [original content] in title post.

  2. Both analog and digital collage allowed.

  3. NSFW content needs to be tagged as such.

  4. Post only images or articles. Ensure the post title contains the title of the artwork or the name of the artist (or both).

  5. Website links and any other relevant information keep to the body of the post or comments.
