I’d buy that. As a mediocre musician, one can even subconsciously ‘sample’ a copyrighted piece. I mean, there are only so many chords and combinations, melodies, etc, so duplicates, and even exact duplicates are bound to happen whether intentional or not. If you upload your track to say SoundCloud on the professional plan with which you intend to generate revenue, the track is heavily scrutinized, and often rejected for this very reason. You actually have to prove it’s OC by various means. They don’t want any pieces parts of any litigation that may even mildly involve them. So, I can see that.

Sure, that’s good. I understand how a beta test works. You test out the product, and contribute to the product with your feedback, and you usually get to keep said product. I was just quoting what was on the App store, which $5.99 for an app that is conducive to my needs is nothing really.

I pretty much said this in the other thread. Unless you own the platform, or a significant investor in said platform, you are subject to the whims of the platform, good, bad, or indifferent. Some don’t like that I guess because they feel like they supported the platform, may have contributed to the platform, but at the end of the day, the platform dictates law for the platform.

Kind of like lemmy.selfhosted. There are rules. If you don’t bother yourself with reading the rules before posting, you get what you get.

About 25-30 years ago, I converted the dining room of my house into a rather large food pantry. It’s just me, so I have little use for a dining room. So I use grocy & barcode buddy to track stock. When I bring in food stock it gets scanned in. When I consume food stock, it gets scanned out. I have an old Android tablet for the display and I have a hand scanner I bought off Amazon for $20. Actually works pretty well, and you can track stock levels. So if you are at the store, and there is a great sale on 50 lb sacks of flour, you can check stock and make a decision from there.

For recipes, I’ve been using CookTrace and I really like it. Mealie and CookTrace are pretty similar in a side by side comparison. I can bring recipes up on the Android tablet from the kitchen.

I would just script a task to restart the docker container every hour. Shouldn’t be too much a hassle.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. A script fired by a cron every hour. I do have the occasional, rare issue with Invidious. So, I’m wondering if indeed I need more restarts. It couldn’t hurt.

If I were a dev, that would be the number one reason I would not publish any app I created. The constant demands from users, the constant integrations, et al, nah…pass. I am grateful for who do, but that’s just not my bag.

Didn’t downvote you but, even as someone who dabbles in AI, and who does not outright reject AI assisted opensource projects, I do really care about the content, the inner workings of said app. If for nothing other than I don’t want to mop up an attack because I deployed something unsafe on my network. So, while I am quite open to AI assisted projects, prudence is the operative word.

I feel that. It’s a constant detour.

Consider this: When I was a young man we were engaged in the War Bay of Pigs, we had the Cuban missile crisis (there was a lot more going on in that area than most people realized), the very real possibility of global thermonuclear destruction, Vietnam, the violence and upheavals of the 60s, the 70s, and into the 80s, etc.

He wishes he hadn’t been born in such a degraded time, describing how fathers and children will be at odds and people will dishonor their parents. What I can do is have tiny influence on the people I speak to.

Tho it may seem defeatist, I gave up trying to save the world back in the 60s when I came to the stark, yet liberating realization, that I cannot save the world, nor does it want to be saved. The very best I could possibly do is to influence a handful of people relatively speaking, and hope, in turn, they do the same.

…and yet, we get in our cars and go to work, play, vacations, and never think much about it. Economies would crash if there weren’t necessary means of transportation. I don’t disagree that cars are pollutive, even tho we have made great advances in controlling and mitigating a lot of the pollutive aspects, and I don’t deny that AI contributes to carbon emissions. Which is why I keep saying that AI needs heavy regulation, much like we did with the early years of automobiles to present day. Another consideration is that the internet displaces carbon emissions with people who work remotely at home, streaming vs physical media being produced, etc.

It’s better than billions underreacting

Oh, it is always wise to educate yourself, take steps to mitigate pollutive aspects in our lives. But I don’t think that throwing the AI baby out with the bath water is conducive, much like we’re not going to stop using transportation. So in order to get the best of both worlds, there must be regulation, as much as I dislike regulation.

So, like transportation, AI isn’t going away. There must be regulation. For example: If company xyz runs an AI data center, it must be powered by renewable energy sources by x %. And why not extend that to all data centers? During COVID, about 557 million workers, or 17.4% of global employment, worked from home. COVID should have been an eyeopener globally. Skies over cities cleared somewhat and in some instances, significantly. Animals returned to their native habitats in the absence of humans. We have the technology to do better. We are just greedy and shortsighted.

Wow! That is a very intriguing question, and one that I have never considered before. Just spitballing here but you could possibly use trad apps like Lynis, Greenbone, Nikto, etc. These apps often produce rather verbose and sometimes cryptic output, i know Lynis sure does. So, you could use a prompt like:

‘You are a security analyst. Review the following Nmap scan results. Identify services running outdated or potentially vulnerable versions, suggest likely CVEs, and prioritize findings by risk.’

Then use something like llama3.1:70b, mistral-nemo or deepseek-coder-v2, and pipe your security scans into your local AI. You could feed it your NGINX, docker configs, pFsense firewall rules in and ask the model to audit them.

IDK, that’s a very good question I think. It’ll be interesting to see what others have to comment.
