Cake day: April 14th, 2024

I’m afraid I’m a terrible cook.

To save me time because I have to work, my to go menu was to prepare a stew with ground meat, mostly chicken, and potatoes, ‘cause they’re cheap and fill you up fast. Add water and pepper, cook, done. I try to cook big batches to save time.

A friend gave me a leek, so I added it to my usual mix: now I feel I’m fuller for longer and don’t have to eat that much meat (I usually mix the same amount of meat and potatoes).

Have I been coking wrong the whole time?

What else can I add to my stews to feel full for longer, to not gain weight but to have enough energy to do my job?

Any downsides to eating less meat?

don’t want to stir fry them because I don’t want to make a mess with my kitchen.

don’t have an oven, so the easiest way to cook them is afaik boiling them.

Do I add salt and pepper while boiling or AFTER?

Do I peel em before boiling or boil them WITH the shell?

Do I need to boil them if I choose to prepare a soup with leeks and maybe potatoes?

I worked bedside nursing. Where i worked we always had extra food trays patients didn’t want, meaning I could get up to 2 meals a shift for free.

On paper prohibited but where I worked at this was very extended, convenient and fast.

Changed workplaces and I cannot get any free food anymore. I simply don’t know what to bring to the workplace.

If its of any help I like cooking stews, but it’s gonna be a hassle to bring that to the workplace. And to bring a sandwich or buy one at the cafeteria? I’ll pass.
