Is there any further news? I check back here from time to time because I don’t know where else to look. If there is another place I should go to keep up with developments, let me know.

Can confirm latex foam is good stuff, I have a latex foam mattresses that has lasted decades. Not all foam is the same tho, so maybe look into what kind of foam is in whichever couch you consider. Some seem to use memory foam. If you look at one of those, make sure you know what your getting into and whether you like that. I have no experience or opinion on memory foam myself but one person I know regrets their memory foam mattress. I think it has to do with heat and feeling held in place when the foam warms up and they sink in.
They taste different. I like sweet bell peppers too, but green gives a green pepper flavor they lack. Using both is ideal, but I appreciate either alone too. Or poblano!
Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What really happened in real life that if you saw it in a movie you would say "that's totally unrealistic"?byblackbrook@lemmy.mlEnglish
7 daysWait, so where did the hair come from? Did the shock from the impact knock it off his body?
Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Would you say it's a common trend through history for sociopathic manipulators to be popular/respected and honest intelligent people are shunned and ostracized?byblackbrook@lemmy.mlEnglish
8 daysAny society has norms which inevitably conflict with 100% honesty. A sociopath does not care about honesty and leverages these norms and human nature to their maximum advantage. Anyone who preferences honesty over these norms will experience friction commensurate with the difference.
As something who doesn’t like those plug in air fresheners, I’m just really curious about your sense that you needed to buy them and use them. I’m not judging here, we all get these notions of what is normal or expected from our environment. I grew up when those didn’t exist, and while bathroom air freshener sprays were a thing and not unknown in the house I grew up in, were kind of optional. I know some people for whom these seem just a thing they take for granted, and wonder to what extent they like them vs think of them as a thing they need to do in order to have good hygiene or keep a good household or whatever.
Personally, I’m turned off by them. I don’t wan’t my house smelling like something it doesn’t have any natural reason to smell like. If there is a bad smell, I want to know and take care of it and not cover it up. Some such fragrances actually really bother me, though it depends, but what I just said applies even to a fragrance that doesn’t bother me and that I like.
Have these become a thing that people think of as something they just need to do?
As someone whose circadian rhythm is inherently later then most, I don’t necessarily want to call this “lazy”, but at one small company I worked for this worked to my advantage because the President would see me working late all the time, but didn’t see what time I came in. Didn’t save my ass per se but didn’t hurt…
Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are you supposed to say to someone who believes climate change is real but won't accept that human activity contributes to it?byblackbrook@lemmy.mlEnglish
10 daysWell without a real sense of the size of the atmosphere (which most people don’t have), that doesn’t really mean anything, other than it being a big number. Any impressively big number can be insignificant in relation to something big enough to easily absorb it.
However, we’ve added to the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere by 50%. I think that says it really is significant.
Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do older generations pee all over the toilet seat?byblackbrook@lemmy.mlEnglish
12 daysI think this is the answer, but peeing on the seat is another level of dysfunctional. Peeing standing up without lifting the seat is not ok even by guys-peeing-standing-up standards. And peeing on the seat while sitting down suggests another problem, and then if you have that problem, not wiping off the seat is even more inconsiderate than leaving a few splashes on the rim of the bowl itself. I have to wonder if some of these boomers have some dementia.

There are leaked emails from Google (from many years ago) where it was proposed to purposely degrade search quality to increase ad clicks. While some at Google responded with dismay as this, it is not a great leap to assume that this faction eventually won and they did in fact deliberately do that. Advertising is Google’s main revenue source, they are clearly motivated to do so.

Search quality has been degrading for years, even before AI was involved.
I get a ton of left wing stuff recommended in my feed and no right wing trash. As much as the algorithm has degraded, it can learn things like this from what you watch and like.
Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If you were to install Linux on a laptop for someone, what distro would you use?byblackbrook@lemmy.mlEnglish
27 daysI think this what I came up with last time I considered this question, and I also wonder if I might want to use it for my next machine myself. Do you have a lot of experience using it? Do you feel like it performs pretty well? (I just have concerns that everything being containerized with flatpak and docker might affect that…)
Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What spelling, grammar or semantics rules have been lost in your lifetime?byblackbrook@lemmy.mlEnglish

Oof! Let me just join in thanking zalamander for their work.
