My world doesn’t have many mountain ranges in a way that’s easy to draw. Rather, the whole center of the continent is raised like one big mountain island.1

I’m drawing a map of an area about 200x219 km, to give an idea of the scale i’m working with, ranging in height from sea level to about 50km above that.

Single mountains or mountain ranges like the ones in the maps in The Lord of the Rings aren’t too hard, but when one side of a mountain covers the entire map i don’t know how to show that.

A map of Oz on Wikipedia has little hair-like lines to show elevation at Happy Valley (bottom left). Is there any other strategy for showing height differences on this scale?

1 This is because instead of tectonic plates, it has something like geophysical cooling that forms mountains. I won’t get into that just now.

I’d like to have a small, simple audio recorder, for noting ideas when i’m driving or at work and i can’t write them down on paper. My cellphone does this but i can’t easily navigate to its recorder with the touchscreen while driving. Something that just has a record button i can find by touch would be great. Even better if it’s easy to clean, so i could use it at work where i’m a line cook. I don’t need a million features, i just need to be able to record and play back short sections of audio, and maybe copy them to my computer over a wire.

Is there anything like this that’s not super expensive?

Occasionally i need a 3D spreadsheet for something that’s very hard or tedious to do in a regular 2D spreadsheet like LibreOffice Calc. The only relevant program i can find is Xcubes (no Linux support) or Minecraft i guess if i try hard enough to make spreadsheets in it (a block of floating lecterns, or maybe signs on glass).

Does anyone know a program that can organize data in more than two dimensions, even if it lacks stuff like the math operations that make Calc or Excel better than graph paper? Better if it’s FOSS but i’ll take what i can get.

Are there any good [the thing i said in the post title]?

My laptop is too new to have a disc drive and the external one i have refuses to work half the time for DVD and doesn’t support bluray at all. My “smart” TV is either too smart or too dumb to play a good portion of the movies i have digitally on a hard drive. Is there a device that can just do both and plug into the TV over HDMI?
