I backup once a week. I have 3 backups (in 2 locations). Everytime a new one is created, the oldest is deleted. I figured if I need to roll back something, 3 weeks is more than enough to notice.

I’m old and don’t have any identifiable infos in my alerts so I use plain mail messages. If for some reason mail wasn’t a good option, I’d use ntfy

I’ve been using Grocy, since my main use case is grocery list sharing with my wife. It has recipes as well, and since the DB knows your kitchen, it can display if you’re good to go or need to go shopping for your meal.
PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Video Games Europe warns against sweeping restrictions proposed in the EU KIDS ActbyISOmorph@feddit.orgEnglish
1 monthThe proposed bill as I understand it, will hurt legitimate game sales. Kids and adults alike will, at least in part, switch to piracy again because the aquisition process will have less friction. It would be in the best interest for valve, epic and even google with their playstore to use their lobbies for something mutually advantageous for them and the customers
Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Software for Syncing files between storages (Linux)byISOmorph@feddit.orgEnglish
1 monthI use freefilesync. You can tailor what is copied where and save it to an executable batch file. If you want to trigger the batch file when your external drive is plugged in you can create a udev rule. Best is you look that up yourself, since it heavily depends on your system (no chatgpt tho!).

2 monthsI’m actually looking for a used quest 3 since it’s apparently so easy to jailbreak them and never let them interact with meta. And it’s very probably a lot cheaper than a new frame

I don’t host massive amounts of data. Just my contacts, calendars, grocery lists, rss feeds, that kind of stuff. All my pictures and movies are on my PC and backed up separately.
