I probably miss out on that aspect as I have everything automated 🤷
This is @Dave@lemmy.nz and @Dave@piefed.nz but PieFed told me not to use my admin account for general browsing so here I am following instructions.

The two main benefits I’ve seen of private trackers are that you avoid the issue in the OP which happens all the time on public trackers, and that shows download in seconds.
Not sure how helpful they would be if things weren’t automated. I just have things set up so my Jellyfin users can request shows and they get downloaded automatically.
But with that said, “private” doesn’t mean it costs money, just that it requires an account (and usually that is an application process). It means they can kick people off for uploading things they shouldn’t.

Oh on private trackers it’s hard to keep a genuine ratio like that. Instead they typically assign points for time you spend seeding, and you use those points to “buy” upload credit that counts for your ratio.
Many private trackers have a requirement to log in every X months so occasionally I just go log in to each and spend all the points.

This seems like a one off for them, but for me whenever tracking ongoing TV series I would regularly get malicious files as they appear before the real ones, and get found and downloaded by sonarr.
These days I only automate from private trackers, and enable a public tracker for an interactive search only if something can’t be found on the private trackers.

There’s a blurb here: https://lemmy.nz/post/42147205/23767495
But basically the Dutch host turned out to actually be Russian owned and got shut down. He’s just waiting to see if it can be recovered as the backups aren’t very recent.
Selfhosted@lemmy.world•For those selfhosting stuff that's publicy accessible, do you serve a security.txt?byHal@piefed.nzEnglish
25 daysI was gonna say you had it in the wrong place, but it looks like you also serve it in the /.well-known/ location as well.
Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Self-Hosting Survey 2026: What are your favorite self-hosted apps?byHal@piefed.nzEnglish
28 daysLooking at last year’s survey, the number of self-hosted devices has 2-3 first. And Raspberry Pi is most popular.
I wonder about this, because I have Pi for Pi hole, and one for Home Assistant, each dedicated. Then almost everything I self host is on a different server. But this still represents Raspberry Pi twice as much as the main server. I think Pis may be most popular because there’s many single-purposes uses for them.

I thought the implication was that you may only be able to buy from that registrar if you’re from/in that country?
Summit here too. I changed up some of the display settings so it feels like Relay for Reddit 😀
The things that got me to move from Voyager were that when images didn’t load first time, there was no way to re-try - Summit has that. And I don’t think Voyager handled drafts that well. Summit has drafts but I do wish there was a client that had drafts like Relay did, where if you come back to the same comment/post and hit reply it has your draft from where you left off on that comment/reply.

1 monthI don’t think this helps in that situation. My battery system will continue powering the house on loss of power from the grid, it just will not feed power back to the grid. That shutoff isn’t that helpful when firefighters are probably worried about the power in the internal wiring.

Browsing through the list… ok how do I tell if my server has been compromised, because I run a fuckload of those…
