Churchill literally starved millions of Bengals to death, and we still have to listen to how it was the USSR’s fault the kulaks caused the holodomor; the same people crying about the holodomor will make excuses for Churchill choosing to steal food

The Chinese Communist Party, once famous for pillaging from the natural world
For an American publication this is a pretty brazen take
eco-authoritarian
You can’t just add the word ‘authoritarian’ on the ends of words and expect to be taken seriously; you’re engaging in thought-authoritarianism

This is basically why I can’t take people’s opinions seriously.
I knew a lib (who’s changed a lot since I met him) who originally believed Iran absolutely had nukes, and that China was absolutely going to invade Taiwan, and that democrats were anti-Israel (yeah, I know); the problem is WHY does he believe these things? He was going based on vibes, and who determined the vibes? The media. Can you believe in the run up to the last election he was actually telling me ‘doesn’t it feel like the Republican party is just fading away?’, and 100% convinced Kamala would win in a landslide victory.
Like, please just stop reading the news; they are not just wrong, they are driving full speed in the opposite direction of reality.
I don’t want to say anything too extreme like ‘if you believe X, Y and Z, you’re stupid’, but if you believe 20 year old forever repeated X news, and Y news when it’s being sold to us by the same liars who sold us the Iraq war, or Z news just because you really want to believe in it, then what am I supposed to think? NPCs are repeating set scripts, but humans are supposed to be able to learn and adapt, and we should be able to compare what we’re told vs what we see in reality.
China has been set to collapse any day now for the last thirty years, they’ve been set to invade Taiwan for the last thirty (twenty?) years, Iran has absolutely had nukes for the past forty years; like please just stop reading the news, it’s not just wrong, it’s literally propaganda to convince you to believe things that are not real.
Ironically if China decides to change their minds and ACTUALLY invade Taiwan, then these people will be convinced they were right all along. If they keep regurgitating this for the next fifty years and China ends up actually invading Taiwan, they’ll take it as evidence they were always right; never mind that in all this time WE’VE invaded countries around the world and ruined the lives of tens of millions.
