President Donald Trump declined to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his visit to New York for the United Nations General Assembly, according to a former State Department official. Annelle Sheline, a research fellow at the Quincy Institute, said Trump is ‘extremely frustrated’ with Netanyahu over his promise of a ‘quick and easy’ war against Iran, which is now in its eighth month. Sheline said Trump may be choosing not to meet Netanyahu because he feels Netanyahu got him into the situation. Unlike last year, Trump did not invite Netanyahu to the White House for a bilateral meeting. Reports indicate Netanyahu’s office tried to arrange a meeting, but the US president was unwilling. A senior US official said the two leaders’ schedules did not overlap in New York. The snub comes as Netanyahu faces reelection next month and global criticism over Israel’s war in Gaza. The Trump administration has also approved a $2.8 billion sale of heavy bombs to Israel, including 40,000 one-ton bombs.
