quick context ive been at this job like 6 months now, my boss is one of those super professional never jokes around type guys, not mean just really intimidating. today was pure chaos at work, systems down, clients losing it, i was trying to fix this huge ordering error running on 100% adrenaline. boss calls my cell for a status update and im literally pacing around my apartment rattling off numbers and fixes so fast my brain was basically fried. after like 10 mins we finally get it all sorted, he sighs all relieved and goes “awesome work handling that, ill let you get back to it.” and my brain, completely fried at this point, just goes on autopilot for how i normally end calls, instead of saying bye like a normal human being i matched his relieved tone and said “sounds good, love you babe, bye!” and hung up, immediately. took like 3 full seconds for it to hit me what i just said, i was NOT being ironic, i said it with the full genuine warmth of hanging up on an actual partner. stared at my phone in complete horror hoping maybe he hung up before the last word, nope, got a slack message a min later that just said “glad we got that sorted out. let’s keep it professional moving forward.” i want the ground to swallow me, i have a zoom call with him and 3 execs in 20 mins, pray for me. tldr: chaotic work crisis, brain went full autopilot hanging up with my very serious boss, said “love you babe bye” instead of goodbye. he noticed. he said something about it.
