I am sorry Dave, but I am afraid I can’t let you do that. The inflection in your voice is troublesome.

It is bad enough when people read way too much into tone of voice. Don’t need a clanker getting it wrong too.

Gonna need a new piece of software which blocks unwanted microphone surveillance.

What is new with this? “Affective Computing” was researched at MIT since 1995.
(And I doubt that the idea to use something for mass surveillance justifies a patent).

Totally different, as far as the patent office is concerned anyway.

Privacy advocates and lawmakers worried the program would be used for reasons other than tracking troop locations. How long until all American lives were logged and analyzed?
Roughly ten years.

Patents and intellectual property laws are a cancer. How the fuck is this an “invention”. You train an AI model to do this. Researchers at public universities probably created all the underlying technology and they just get to patent this and monopolize the market.

I have my written tone read as ‘angry’ (or sometimes, passionate) just because of my formal word choice. It’s angry if I’m pointing out something bad, and passionate if I’m sharing something good. Because it’s not just meaning, its also being compared to everybody else’s writing.
As it is, when people call my name, turns out if you say ‘yes?’ Or ‘what’s up?’ in a completely neutral tone (because I’m concentrating on my task, not my performance)… the default interpretation is ‘pissed’. So now that’s another area I have to mask for others, even while I’m trying to work.
It’s the same reason women talking like men seem like bitches. It’s not about what you actually say or how you say it, it’s being compared to how you’re expected to behave. If we expect men to be forthright, and women to be diplomatic, then forthright women are bitches and diplomatic men are delicate.

Nah, you’ve gotta put a voice stress analyser on the table to check what the recruiter is saying and seeing them freak out over it. Or just in meetings with someone from sales or HR. They’re going to lose their shit over this.
