seems like it. there is no source on nasa web, it just circulates on facebook/instagram/twitter.

nasa gallery from juno (aircraft orbiting jupiter): https://science.nasa.gov/gallery/junocam-images/

And only one of them seems to not claim it’s real. The first one that says “reimagining of Jupiter”.

NASA: heavily edits a grainy drab picture to make it look like a Van Gogh painting

Internet: Van Gogh must have had telescopic 2nd sight.

could you link the original image?

It’s AI slop. I tried to find it and only references to images like this are from Facebook, Instagram and Threads. No hits in any of the NASA or Juno archives. The real photos of Jupiter are amazing, but don’t look anything like this.

I could find this particular one, but you can see examples like https://images.nasa.gov/details/PIA23609, https://images.nasa.gov/details/PIA25693, and https://images.nasa.gov/details/PIA25017 to see what the pictures actually look like. While Jupiter’s storms seen from space do have a certain Van Gogh feeling, the one on this post has saturation and contrast dialled up to 11.

Still looks pretty van Gogh to me tbh, had worse disappointments in space “photography”

                          No, NASA didn’t.
